History of the Anniston Munitions Center
ANMC was originally established on October 1941 as the Anniston Ordnance Depot on 10,640 acres including 500 ammunition storage igloos, six standard magazines, 20 warehouses, and several administrative buildings. In August 1962, the installation was renamed the Anniston Army Depot (ANAD) under the control of the Army Material Command (AMC). In October 1998, OPCON of ANAD was transferred to TACOM, but the ammunition mission and resources remained under the IOC and was renamed Anniston Munitions Center, a tenant of ANAD. In October 1999, Blue Grass Army Depot assumed command and control of Anniston Munitions Center and In January 2003, ADMC began operating a first of its kind Missile Recycling Center. ADMC recieved their first military commander in June 2004.
